Gothic Lolita outfit & make-up for Pandimensional Halloween Syndicate club
[info]trashtastika

I haven't dressed up in aaaages, and this club certainly warranted it. The flyer said to come dressed in 15th to 19th Century Halloween gear - but said that aliens and time travellers would be allowed in. Hence, pretty much any costume would fit in OK!

For me make-up I channelled a bit of Pat McGrath (MUA for Dior, Galliano etc), a bit of Johnny Depp as Mad Hatter, and a lot of Japanese goth.

I will do some follow-up posts - one a make-up tutorial to 'get the look', and another on the club itself, with pics of other patrons, the performers and fab band "Barons of Tang" (who bill themselves as 'Gypsy deathcore'!)

My long weekend - not
eyes
[info]trashtastika
Yeah, I pop in here from time to time.

After 3 night shifts last week, I had a fashion show to go to on Thursday night, then Spandau Ballet and Townie drinking on Friday night - so Saturday night was spent at home. I really needed the rest.

We watched the new series of Ashes to Ashes which I think is better than the first 2 series (tho still not a patch on Life on Mars).  There's a new Inspector/baddie you love to hate, and a cute episode where Philip Glenister's real life wife has a part as owner of a dating agency. A couple of lines are only funny if you already know this fact :)

Being back at work Sunday and Monday night means I missed the Fetish Ball etc. Any good?

I have a few days off before resuming day shifts, so the usual zombie state will ensue from tomorrow as I adjust to going to bed before 6 or 7am.

This Friday is Steampunk club, and Saturday is Fireballs gig and Ascension. At least, that's the current plan.... What about you guys?

Grimoire - Vintage store in Tokyo - Dolly Kei Fairytale Style
green
[info]trashtastika
A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of teaming up with fellow blogger Valerie of Alice et Peter Punk for a day tour of Shibuya's clothing stores. But not just any stores - oh no. We ventured into those with a fairyland /vintage feel, discovering more about an emerging japanese fashion trend.

Grimoire  is at the forefront of this antique, vintage, Dolly-kei phenomenon, and when you go there, you can see why.

It's like a Victorian museum come to life, with Rococo Elements, Alice in Wonderland and other fairytales thrown together with some Gypsy spells and a sprinkling of fairy dust, before being breathed into life as a curio shoppe set in the heart of a forest.

Fireballs gig "Blood Sweat & Beers", and the Cobweb Club last weekend
[info]trashtastika
Hey hey kiddies! Unfortunately I worked all weekend on nightshift so didn't get out at all. Fortunately, that means I can sleep soon while most of you have to go out in the foul weather.

Anyway, last weekend i *DID* get out to a few things, namely the Annandale for the Blood, Sweat & Beers festival, and Cobweb club at the Taxi Club.

Details here:

and http://thefashionatetraveller.blogspot.com/2010/02/cobweb-club-and-out-come-bats.html

I had an AWESOME time at both :)

Past holidays and upcoming good thngs

Better late than never to start my new year here.

Had an enjoyable, if very beery weekend - it was great seeing Tavis again at Die Maschine, as well as a lot of other people from "old times" who don't go as much these days. eg Holly, Wendy and Pete, Bill and Michaela, Carmel ...

Dom and I had a (mostly) great time in Sihanoukville, Cambodia, hanging out in beachside bungalows and drinking far too much Beer Lao, Chang, Angkor etc..

Posts about the holiday are here:

This Sat is Big Day Out - wahey!! With Shallow nation after. Then Echo and the Bunnymen on the 30th. Oh, and seeing Avatar at IMAX on Australia Day too. Good things :)

A good mate Si Nott is coming out from the UK too. We stayed with him when we were in Devon so will put him up for a few days. Poss even an arvo at the Courty on the Sunday - but being the day after BDO, will we be too wrecked?

Tentative Calendar

[info]trashtastika
It seems like so much is on right now, and I'm constantly asking Dom "what night is Green Day?", "when is your Xmas party?" etc..

Here is my calendar for the next 2 weeks as much as I know right now.

Tonight: Electric Dreams at Hermanns.

The serious business of shoe organisation
[info]trashtastika
I've had a few days off, and have been getting serious with cleaning, tidying, decluttering and re-organising. I won't show pics of my nice tidy bathroom, but I am rather happy with my efforts on the footwear front. I've managed to tame the beast that was my (rather large) shoe and boot collection. And I did a bit of research while I was at it, which I share with you here.

Fashion on Holiday
green
[info]trashtastika
I don’t know if it’s just me, but I have a slightly different fashion aesthetic when I’m on holiday, and in hot climates, than I do in urban environments (my everyday life and on holiday in big cities). I think many of us do. It’s called being appropriate.

At home, and especially at night going out, I like to dress up, wear glammy, shiny things and big stompy boots or luscious platforms. I like black pumped up with a bright colour to contrast.

But in hot climates, being comfortable and dealing with the heat figure much more prominently in my style decisions. On hols recently, I wore a green cotton knit halter neck dress with empire line a fair bit. It covered my swimming costume on the way to the beach, covered my tummy with the gathers under the bust, and resisted wrinkles being a knit. At home, I’d probably only wear it edged up a bit, with slinky black leggings and a vest or jacket over it (and funky jewellery and groovy shoe-boots).

I well remember being in Vang Vieng in Laos a few years back, and it was HOTTTT!! Read more... )
What about you? Do you compromise your look a little when on holiday in hot places? Do you dress up as much when away, as you do at home?
